Early claim to fame.....

We trekked from Devon upto Bristol to see the band at the 'Fleece & Firkin' venue, great gig it was too, very small crowd but an electric atmosphere.

After the show we got chatting to Dave and he invited us back stage to chill with the band and have a few beers.

The next night we got invited up to Wolverhampton where I believe they were playing at the Civic Hall. If that wasn't cool enough, we also stayed at one of the band members houses where we stayed up all night playing guitar and smoking lots....

Happy times.

A good friend of mine passed away recently and his brother played 'Hope Springs Eternal' at his funeral.....many tears were shed as it is such a beautiful song.

Cheers

Cool story man!

Was Jas as arrogant back then as he appeared to be when he was in Babylon Zoo?

Ha Ha,

The rest of the band sat about drinking beer and smoking things (no need to mention) and Jazz sat in his 'special chair' with a pair of slippers on, drinking a carton of ready made ribena. I never knew him to take part in any debauchery especially drink or drugs....

It was a great night and on the back of it, I learned how to play 'Let it Grow' on the bass guitar by the bass player, fab stuff !

Cheers

Lucky man... what I would give to have been to at least one SK show...

Slippers & Ribena sounds about right for the eccentric one that is Jas!

Well i'm glad that he doesn't need alcohol to have fun. cool.gif

I don't drink either, i just don't like the taste of it and the smell. Plus it makes many people stupid.
Everytime i go on a gig i can't believe how little non alocohlic drinks there are. Just Pepsi or Coca Cola, oh wow what a great choice. rolleyes.gif

I'd like to know why everyone thinks that Jas is/was arrogant?

He is a little bit if you look at some of the early BZ interviews.

I think he was missunderstood by most people.
There is nothing wrong with having a big goal, a vision (to be the best).
He knew what he was capable of and that his first Album was great, that might have been the problem - and this seemed very arrogant to others but not to me.
He's also shy as you can see sometimes when you study his body language, who wouldn't be if you get anaysed by others. But you can also see how sweet he is, a nice, funny, intelligent person.
He never gives away too much in interviews, he's very protective about his private life.
No wonder when you see how the press reacts towards him. He was never nasty to anyone so i personally don't understand where all the hate from the media comes from.
In my eyes he really doesn't deserve all that shit.
Every now and then he tried to be joky and made people think, they didn't always get his humour, which confused them and made me laugh.

You also don't have to forget that, what reporters write and what the interviewed person said can be two different things. Every now and then they let their own feelings towards that person slip into that.

I know how it is to be labelled arrogant when you're not. I used to get that stamp on in school.
Just because i was distant to people, and done my own stuff (i knew i was good in certain things and other's didn't like that, also because i never worked with them) . People can be so jealous and they don't think that you might be shy, i put a protective shield around me so no one would know the real me, how i feel inside.
I've always been a loner, apart from my family and a few online friends i just have one best friend who i know for 16 years now. So i guess i can somehow connect to Jas in that way.

now this is a late reply so sorry about that but i totaly agree with you. in almost all the interviews i have seen/heard they all just dissmiss Jas because he is different. because he tryed to follow his dreams and actually did which dosent always happen to everyone.
i love his humour!! haha its funny to see the peoples reaction back then, i cant believe they all got so pissed off with him, its reely quite stupid and unnessesery. i kind of like that he dosent give away to much in interviews.. makes the band seem more misterious and him. ahh yeah well thats it for now.

peace!
