A bit like the topic Zanna posted on the old forum, but different.

Recommend us any good books, films, tracks to download, albums to buy, up-and-coming artists, club nights etc.

I'm reading Bill Bryson - Made in America at the moment. This is about the history of North America, its people, language and culture. Well worth a read. smile.gif

Ok erm albums ive been listening to a lot recently...

Type O Negative - Slow, Deep & Hard (Metal)
Lacuna Coil - Comalies (Goth Metal)
R.E.M. - New Adventures In Hi-Fi (Alt-Rock) - underrated but really good.
Suede - Singles (Indie Rock)
The Cult - Pure Cult: The Singles 1984-1995 (Goth(ish) Rock

books...

well i'm currently reading "Battle Royale" by Koushun Takami - yes its the book that spawned the infamouse movie... a very good read and a lot deeper than the film.

Movies/DVD's

Apollo 13 - Just bought the 2 disc special edition... my vhs tape was worn out from over playing it!! Classic. £5.99 in the virgin megastores sale!

Brass Eye - Spoof current affairs program shown in the UK from 1997. Episode features Jas... but enough of that... tongue.gif - great series.

Doom - This is a recomendation to NOT watch this movie EVER!! It's dross!!

Hmm... Pirates of the Caribbean. Not too recent I know, but if you've never watched it you really should. I watch it a lot, I sort have a like for the whole pirate theme anyway (I blame that on Childhood days playing with pirate lego!). Awesome film biggrin.gif

Hm, I really don't rate that film. I couldn't wait for it to end.
Everyone should see One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Now that's a film. tongue.gif

I recommend TOWERS OF LONDON and HURRICANE PARTY two up and coming bands. Loser Kid probably knows about TOL. I dunno what he thinks but I like them. Hurricane Party are really interesting too.

A DVD for you to view/buy is John Carpenters Vampires, Its a good film and a priest gets killed which is always funny (I don't mean to offend anyone with that comment but I have a twisted sense of humour)

I'll be at the Hurricane Party gig at Bradford Rio's on New Years Eve. They have quite a following with the regulars.

Another CD recomendation is: REM - Lifes Rich Pageant (Yeah I know I've said this a hundred times before! So why havent you all bought it yet eh?)

I agree. I remember watching that when I was younger and feeling really, really sad afterwards. It is brilliant though, same for the book. Who would have thought an animated film about rabbits could be so moving sad.gif

I always blub like a baby afterwards and often during 'Bright Eyes'... very embarassing! The thing about Watership Down is that it's extremely moving, yet funny sometimes and also quite gory/disturbing in parts. It's also got great actors doing the voices and the animation is excellent.
The book is really good but I saw this way before I read it, so I'm more passionate about the film.

I'm not into Captain Sensible, but do you know his b-side "Strawberry Dross"? it's one of my favourites b-sides ever, you feel like you're listening to an LP! I used to have it when i was a kid and thought it was weird/fascinating.
