Hey everybody, I'm ashamed to say this, but I actually started liking Spaceman after watching the Channel 4 One Hit Wonders programme, not the greatest big-up I know, but the clips of the video they showed intrigued me, I knew the 'squeaky bit' already but didn't realise the rest was more of a proper rock song if you know what I mean - what struck me was that everybody talking about it (the only person I remember is Nihal from Radio 1) was put off by the undanceness of the rest, but I love it - it makes it more than just a gimmick....ok so I was also struck by Jas's lushness as well but there you go...wink.gif

Anyway, I watched the video online and then I went to my local charity shop, figured that the single might be there if so many people bought it in 96 and didn't like it...and I was right, I found it for 75p! I like the b-sides as well, they're really different (Metal Vision and Blue Nude) and he really seems to be saying something about society...but I haven't heard anything else and I don't know where to start! Record shops don't seem to have any albums and I'm afraid I would get laughed out if I asked given the bad press they seem to get as 'one-hit wonders'...so can you guys help out? I don't mean illegal downloads, just any links to vids or sites where you can buy albums? blink.gif

Thanks guys - I just wish I had been older than 7 in 1996 or I might have appreciated the stuff then! In fact most of the music I like (Feeder, Placebo, Foos, Savage Garden) seems to originate from around '96 or '97...sigh...

If you like Spaceman then you may be surprised to find that it's not the best song on The Boy With The Xray Eyes album. Oh yes!!..... they are BETTER biggrin.gif. Check out EBay.... you can pick it up for around £3.

ENJOY!! rock.gif

Hey thanks, I forgot to try ebay, I really should... smile.gif

By the way the rock hand gives me confidence, from hearing about all the 'pop' hype spaceman got when it was released if you know what I mean it's good to see they are respected as a rock band... oh by the way when I say 'they', was there actually anyone else in the band, or was it just an alias for Jas? See I really don't know anything here...

I still never did understand the whole band thing either. I remember the blonde girl Carrie from when I was young, and the guy with the face mask, but they were only backing musicians, weren't they? Were the black guys who he sacked actually responsible for any of the music or were they also just backing musicians? A guy i know who seen them in 95 said there was about 8 of them on stage.

Jas did the album himself but obviously needed musicians for live performances.

There was a band.... the band got sacked.... EMI hired stage musicians for his Top Of The Pop performances.... then Jas recruited new members (Carrie is the only one I remember) for his European tour. I personally consider Carrie and Co part of Babylon Zoo..... others believe that Babylon Zoo was a Jas Mann solo project...... I suppose King Kong Groover definately was.

There's no pop about Babylon Zoo....... TBWTXE's is a very dark progressive rock album.

Welcome aboard and I hope you find a copy of the first album, it's been a favourite of mine (and most other people here) since 96.

Welcome to the forum! You can download the full albums from the music section, being that the albums have long been deleted I wouldn't worry too much about the legality of them and get downloading!

I like Feeder....

Anyway I got into Babylon Zoo after that programme as well after I heard the rockier full song (I was only young when it came out- before I thought it was just the helium voice 'Spaceman-Spaceman-Spaceman-Spaceman...') and I dug out a cassette single that my mum had previously saved from the bin and I was very impressed.
The best place to buy the album is ebay (I bought one last week for £1) and I found their are many other songs worthy of greatness

Haha.... I do remember certain members of this forum (myself included) slating that show for seemingly belittling the mighty Babylon Zoo.....

Didn't expect it to create new fans so my opinion of the show has changed somewhat biggrin.gif

Thanks for the welcome guys, I'm gonna try and get the first album to start with...think I'll probably just try and buy it off ebay, not too good with downloading anyway and I don't even have net access at home...but I always feel bad trying to get things for really cheap because it feels like ripping off theseller - I suppose they taking that risk selling on an auction site though...

Oh and yay for the Feederliking! I hope you are happy even though your name is suicide... smile.gif
