First solo male to debut at No. 1 was Babylon Zoo (a name used by British vocalist/multi-instrumentalist, Jas Mann) with "Spaceman" (1996).

I did not know this interesting little piece of trivia. I found it on some random website.

Does anyone know if Babylon Zoo still hold the record for biggest selling debut single???

Isn't it Will Young with Evergreen? Or maybe another Pop Idol/X Factor winner has the record. rolleyes.gif

I never knew any of that.. I thought Jas held the record for the fastest selling single since the Beatles 'love me do' or whatever it was.

I don't count bands or artists who had previous exposure from crappy reality TV Shows.... that's cheating!

But while I'm on the topic, I found this little list of the biggest selling singles of all time... see if you can find babylon Zoo... enjoy biggrin.gif

GRRRR.... edit post... link doesn't come up... well.... Babylon Zoo were number 61 on the list with 1.10 million

Ok... have a scan through this and see if anyone finds anything

I've read somewhere that the "real" debut single from Babylon Zoo was a limited press of Fire Guided Light on 12". Can anyone confirm or dement this?

Hmm, i thought Animal Army was the first track to be 'released'. And the public only got to know about it after the rise of Spaceman. But i've probably got all my facts mixed up biggrin.gif

Oh, well, that might be, though I've never heard of it... only the Fire Guided Light 12" release I've heard of (and actually I think I've read it on many different places, as far as I can recall).

Anyways. I do think that the first ever Babylon Zoo track to be "released" was Parralel Lines which was to be found on a promotional cassette together with loads of other artists.
